Key components of the products and services offered by GLHIE:
- Clinical Messaging - Connects health care providers electronically so communication, documents, and other forms of data can move securely between practice-specific electronic medical records systems, laboratories and other diagnostic centers, urgent care centers, long-term care centers, inpatient departments, etc.
- Enables electronic results delivery of ADT, labs, radiology and textual reports.
- Subscribe to a Patient functionality allows providers to automatically receive all health care information that flows through GLHIE for their patients. Providers can subscribe to their entire patient load or only a subset. This functionality supports provider efforts to manage the care of patients across all delivery sites and throughout the health care network, a capability critical to the development and success of Patient Centered Medical Homes and Accountable Care Organizations.
- The Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI), Provider Directory, and Record Locator Service (RLS) can identify patients and link their health records across diverse care settings. Patient information across multiple providers who participate is linked, allowing providers to have a more complete record on which to base their diagnosis and treatment plan improving the quality of care and increasing patient safety. The provider directory enables results delivery and clinical messaging.
- Our Interoperability Hub and Provider Index allows disparate EMRs/EHRs to be connected to GLHIE via HL7 interface. This means that not only can these EMRs/EHRs receive all results from participating health systems directly into their EMR from a single interface; physicians can communicate with each other electronically. Examples of this connectivity include the electronic routing of referrals and consultative reports from one EMR/EHR to the next, clinical messaging among participating physicians whose EMR/EHR is clinical messaging enabled, and selecting and importing documents into their EMR/EHR from our Virtual Health Record with a few simple clicks.
- GLHIE has a query function. Our Virtual Health Record (the longitudinal, community health record) allows providers to quickly locate all available information on patients presenting for the first time or seeking urgent, emergent care. When a patient is injured in an accident and is unable to explain their health history, the health care providers can find information about their health issues and make informed decisions about emergency care more quickly.
- In addition, for those physicians who do not have resources to immediately invest in their own EMR/EHR, GLHIE has a low cost, meaningful use certified EMR that is integrated into the HIE framework. The Elysium EMR provides the functionality needed to receive and send clinical data electronically, eRx, and supports attainment of the “Meaningful Use” requirements for Medicare/Medicaid Incentive Payments and other payers’ performance improvement programs. E-prescribing is also available with this EMR.
- GLHIE can also provide eRx capability to physician practices that have not yet implemented an EMR or have an EMR system that does not support eRx. This functionality is critical to prevent Medicare negative payment adjustments for failing to use eRx.
Security and privacy policies and procedures are built into the foundation of GLHIE and are enforced at many levels: Technology such as VPN tunnels, SSL encryption, and WS-Security protect private health information as it is exchanged between health care partners. A role-based security system with configurable access controls enforces appropriate system authentication, authorization, and access for system users.
